THE WISDOM OF THE BEATLES
Be inspired by the most iconic band of our generation.
Baby It's You
Honoring your influences helps you find your own voice
April 26

Borrowing from artists they admired, the Beatles covered this Shirelles hit with John delivering a passionate lead vocal. Released in 1963, the track announced that they could interpret as powerfully as they could originate. They weren't afraid to show their influences, understanding the importance of learning from others.
Artists develop by studying those who came before them. The Beatles did not invent rock and roll, but they openly celebrated their influences from Motown, rock pioneers, and early R&B artists. This willingness to dive into and learn from their musical heroes shaped their sound, creating something that was uniquely theirs.
Building on a foundation others laid shows respect and maturity. This song demonstrates how covering someone else's material can showcase your own artistry. John's vocal interpretation differs from the Shirelles' version while honoring its essence, showing that influence and individuality coexist beautifully.
You will find your own voice by learning from the voices you admire. The Beatles' willingness to cover songs by Black American artists introduced those artists to new audiences while developing their own skills. Learning from the masters who inspired you is how you become yourself.
Today, I will openly acknowledge one influence that has shaped my work, honoring where I learned rather than pretending I invented everything myself.
Who taught you what you know? How might acknowledging your influences strengthen rather than diminish your own unique contributions?
Join April's New Beginnings Lessons
When George Harrison walked out of a contentious business meeting in 1969 and into Eric Clapton's garden, he discovered the strategic power of renewal. The song he wrote that afternoon, "Here Comes the Sun," would become The Beatles' most-streamed track and a masterclass in navigating transitions. Throughout April, we'll explore how their approach to new beginnings, strategic retreats, and turning endings into opportunities provides actionable frameworks for leaders navigating organizational transitions, career pivots, and transforming uncertainty into growth in every area of life.
