When you see a need, lend a hand
October 6

Novel solutions are needed to combat the fallout of war. The Bangladesh Liberation War left millions without basic human needs and created a massive refugee crisis. When George learned of this he was compelled to action. Despite having no experience organizing large-scale humanitarian events, George used his platform to organize the "Concert for Bangladesh" in 1971, launching the concept of large-scale benefit concerts.
Events like this are now common, but at the time, it was both courageous and risky. George believed that seeing suffering and doing nothing diminishes our own humanity. He mobilized musicians for humanitarian relief, creating the template for modern benefit concerts while proving that artists could effectively advocate for global causes. The event raised both funds and awareness through the simple power of people taking action.
Emergency situations don't wait for us to feel fully prepared or perfectly qualified to help. George discovered that responding to need often requires stepping outside our comfort zone and learning as we go. His willingness to act despite uncertainty demonstrates that good intentions paired with genuine effort can create significant impact.
Determination, even when we feel inadequate, often accomplishes more than waiting until we feel ready. George's concert showed that lending a hand doesn't require expertise, just the willingness to contribute whatever we can offer. When we see genuine need, our response reveals our character and creates ripples of positive change that extend far beyond our initial gesture.
Today, I will identify one genuine need I can address and take immediate action rather than waiting until I feel fully prepared.

When John Lennon admitted "Help! I need somebody" in 1965, he shattered expectations for rock stars by choosing vulnerability over invincibility. That radical honesty revealed how The Beatles understood that acknowledging struggle doesn't diminish strength, it creates the foundation for sustainable success. Throughout March, we'll explore how their approach to mental wellness, emotional honesty, and inner refuge provides actionable frameworks for leaders navigating burnout, anxiety, and unprecedented pressure in every area of life.
