THE WISDOM OF THE BEATLES

Be inspired by the most iconic band of our generation.

Blue Jay Way

When lost in fog, focus on the next step, not the ultimate destination

March 20

A figure standing or waiting in thick fog (represented by swirling lines), with a small light or clearing visible in the distance. Limited visibility but hope present. Soft, swirling organic lines. Patience in uncertainty.

Being lost in literal fog inspired this eerie Magical Mystery Tour track. George wrote "Blue Jay Way" while waiting for friends who'd gotten lost driving through Los Angeles fog. The disorienting production with swirling organs and backwards vocals mirrors that foggy confusion where nothing seems clear.

Losing your way doesn't mean the destination disappeared. The song captures the anxiety of waiting when you can't see what's happening or when things will change. At times like this you may only see the next step, but that is enough to keep moving forward.

Unable to see clearly creates natural fear and disorientation. George transformed this ordinary situation into something psychedelic and strange, showing how waiting itself becomes the experience. Sometimes the journey through uncertainty teaches more than the arrival ever could.

Eventually fog lifts and paths reveal themselves again. The song doesn't offer false comfort but acknowledges the disorientation while maintaining faith that clarity will return. Patience during obscured moments becomes its own practice.

Today, I will practice patient hope in one foggy situation, trusting in the next step, even if the ultimate destination is unclear.

What situation in your life feels foggy and unclear right now? How might trusting that the path will reveal itself help you wait with less anxiety?

When John Lennon admitted "Help! I need somebody" in 1965, he shattered expectations for rock stars by choosing vulnerability over invincibility. That radical honesty revealed how The Beatles understood that acknowledging struggle doesn't diminish strength, it creates the foundation for sustainable success. Throughout March, we'll explore how their approach to mental wellness, emotional honesty, and inner refuge provides actionable frameworks for leaders navigating burnout, anxiety, and unprecedented pressure in every area of life.
