Borrowed Time
Make every moment count
November 16

Time becomes precious when we recognize its limited nature. John's posthumously released "Borrowed Time," written just months before his death in 1980, carries almost prophetic weight. The song is a meditation on mortality and the fleeting nature of time, capturing his awareness that life is both fragile and unpredictable.
In our busy lives, we often forget that every moment is borrowed from an unknown future. The lyrics suggest that by recognizing time's limits, we're inspired to live more fully and express love more openly. Rather than creating anxiety, awareness of mortality can inspire us to prioritize what truly matters.
Many of our daily worries fade in importance when viewed against life's temporary nature. John's reflection reminds us that the conflicts, ambitions, and fears that consume our attention often matter less than the relationships and experiences that bring genuine joy and meaning to our existence.
Everyone benefits when we approach time as a gift rather than a burden. John's awareness of borrowed time encouraged him to express love more openly, create more authentically, and appreciate simple pleasures that might otherwise go unnoticed in the rush of daily activities and long-term planning.
Today, I will treat time as a precious gift, focusing on what truly matters rather than getting caught up in urgent but unimportant activities.
What would you prioritize differently if you truly embraced that time is borrowed? How might awareness of life's temporary nature help you focus on what brings genuine meaning and joy?
