I'll Be Back
True love is a commitment to return over and over again
April 27

Brilliant uncertainty permeates this closing track from A Hard Day's Night. John captured the ambiguity of young love, shifting between major and minor keys to mirror romantic indecision. The song can't decide if it's hopeful or defeated, which makes it feel completely genuine.
As we mature, we learn that love doesn't always provide clear answers: that love involves soaring heights and confusing lows. When we are hurt, we can simultaneously want to stay and need to leave, feel certain and completely uncertain.
Complex emotions often require time and self-reflection. The song doesn't resolve its contradictions or choose between competing feelings. Instead, it sits with the discomfort of not knowing, acknowledging that some questions aren’t ready to be answered even when the stakes are high.
Keeping your promise to return builds trust, even in the face of uncertainty. The title itself is a commitment: I'll be back. Not "I'll never leave" but rather an acknowledgment that sometimes you'll have to go. At many stages of life true love is more about the reliable return than about permanent presence.
Today, I will honor one relationship by showing up again after absence or difficulty, demonstrating that love means returning, not never leaving.
Where have you let the complexity of a relationship drive you away permanently when what's needed is the commitment to keep coming back? How might "I'll be back" be a more realistic promise than "I'll never leave"?
Join April's New Beginnings Lessons
When George Harrison walked out of a contentious business meeting in 1969 and into Eric Clapton's garden, he discovered the strategic power of renewal. The song he wrote that afternoon, "Here Comes the Sun," would become The Beatles' most-streamed track and a masterclass in navigating transitions. Throughout April, we'll explore how their approach to new beginnings, strategic retreats, and turning endings into opportunities provides actionable frameworks for leaders navigating organizational transitions, career pivots, and transforming uncertainty into growth in every area of life.
