I Know, I Know
A sincere apology requires no excuses
April 17

Knowing you were wrong opens the door to reconciliation and ultimately renewal. John wrote this Mind Games track as an apology to Yoko (or perhaps Paul), acknowledging his mistakes and asking for forgiveness. His references to "yesterday" and "getting better all the time" suggest this might be a peace offering to Paul.
No excuses, no justifications, just acknowledgment of harm. The song demonstrates that a good apology isn't about defending yourself or explaining context; it's about taking full responsibility. John was learning that saying "I was wrong" carried more power than defensiveness.
Owning your mistakes can transform a relationship. The vulnerability in John's voice reveals how difficult this kind of honesty is, even for someone who built a career on emotional transparency.
Wisdom emerges when we prioritize connection over ego. John could have stayed defensive, protected his image, and provided excuses. Instead, he chose understanding and reconciliation.
Today, I will offer one sincere apology without defending, explaining, or minimizing my actions, simply acknowledging the impact and asking for forgiveness.
What apology have you been withholding because you're still trying to justify your actions? How might unconditional acknowledgment of harm actually restore what defensiveness has kept broken?
Join April's New Beginnings Lessons
When George Harrison walked out of a contentious business meeting in 1969 and into Eric Clapton's garden, he discovered the strategic power of renewal. The song he wrote that afternoon, "Here Comes the Sun," would become The Beatles' most-streamed track and a masterclass in navigating transitions. Throughout April, we'll explore how their approach to new beginnings, strategic retreats, and turning endings into opportunities provides actionable frameworks for leaders navigating organizational transitions, career pivots, and transforming uncertainty into growth in every area of life.
