I Me Mine

Grasping hands trying to hold onto objects or prizes, with items slipping through fingers. The act of clutching causing loss. Tense, grasping gesture contrasted with things falling away. Simple but powerful metaphor for ego and loss.

Materialism and ego were topics George explored through Indian philosophy. Ironically recorded while the band fell apart over clashing egos, "I Me Mine" criticizes the very self-centeredness destroying The Beatles. On January 3, 1970, three Beatles went into the studio without John, who was on holiday. This turned out to be their last studio session together.

Isolating yourself through self-centeredness ultimately leaves everyone alone. When each person starts prioritizing individual interests over collective success, collaboration crumbles. George witnessed this in real time as business disputes turned brothers into adversaries.

Nobody wins when ego dominates. The song captures the tragedy of self-centeredness destroying something beautiful, showing how the tight grip on "mine" causes the collective "ours" to slip away. George's insight came too late to save The Beatles but stands as eternal warning for any partnership.

Even as the band was falling apart, they created great music with a universal message. Selfishness creates vicious cycles where everyone loses. The tighter you hold onto individual credit, the more the collective achievement dissolves. Integrity in collaboration requires releasing that grip, trusting that generosity expands rather than diminishes what you ultimately receive.
