THE WISDOM OF THE BEATLES

Be inspired by the most iconic band of our generation.

Listen to What the Man Said

The wisdom we need often comes from voices we're reluctant to hear

September 14

Simple black and white line drawing of an older man in profile speaking earnestly to a younger person who is leaning in attentively, with small musical notes floating between them, suggesting the passing of wisdom through words and music.

The most profound guidance often comes from the father figures who've watched us grow. Though not intended as a tribute to his father, Paul's 1975 hit "Listen to What the Man Said" carries special meaning when viewed through the lens of his relationship with his dad.

Honoring Jim McCartney may not have been his intention, but it fits the steady influence he had on Paul’s life. When Paul faced difficult decisions, from joining The Beatles to navigating pressure of fame, his father's voice provided grounding wisdom that kept him centered.

Embracing paternal guidance requires recognizing that sometimes learned experience carries hard-earned insights into life's complexities. Jim's influence not only shaped Paul's music, but his character.

Different perspectives are hard to appreciate when we are young – especially from an older generation. As we mature, we realize that biological fathers, stepfathers, and father figures, often offer wisdom born of experience.

After losing his mother Mary when he was just fourteen, Paul's father became his primary source of parental guidance. Jim’s steady presence gave Paul a role model that offered consistent love, guidance, and unwavering belief in his potential.

Dads and father figures who invested in our growth create lasting a legacy that we seldom recognize. Listening to "what the man said" honors those men who have helped illuminate our path forward.

Today, I will actively seek wisdom from a father figure whose experience could guide my next steps, honoring the voice that has consistently supported my growth.

Whose paternal wisdom in your life deserves more attention and gratitude? What guidance from father figures have you been too proud to fully embrace?

Join April's New Beginnings Lessons

When George Harrison walked out of a contentious business meeting in 1969 and into Eric Clapton's garden, he discovered the strategic power of renewal. The song he wrote that afternoon, "Here Comes the Sun," would become The Beatles' most-streamed track and a masterclass in navigating transitions. Throughout April, we'll explore how their approach to new beginnings, strategic retreats, and turning endings into opportunities provides actionable frameworks for leaders navigating organizational transitions, career pivots, and transforming uncertainty into growth in every area of life.
