Look Up

Hope exists above our problems - perspective changes everything

September 18

Simple black and white illustration of a person's silhouette looking upward at a starry sky, with musical notes floating upward from their head, suggesting thoughts and hope rising above earthly concerns.

Legendary producer T. Bone Burnett and co-writer Daniel Tashian crafted the perfect anthem for Ringo's 2025 return to country music. "Look Up" became the title track of Ringo's most successful solo album in decades, proving that sometimes the simplest messages carry the most power. At 84, Ringo's weathered voice delivered gentle encouragement with the authority of someone who's seen every kind of storm yet still chooses hope.

Overwhelmed by life's complexities, we often forget the healing power of perspective. The song's tender country arrangement strips away all pretense, and reminds us: when everything feels heavy, the simple act of lifting your eyes toward the sky can shift your entire emotional state.

Optimism is a hallmark of Ringo’s approach to life, and "Look Up" honors that legacy. The album's success surprised industry experts who'd written off older artists, but Ringo's simple message struck a chord with listeners. His gentle interpretation of their lyrics reminded listeners that a change in perspective is often the best way forward.

Knowing all the challenges Ringo has faced in his life - from a sickly childhood, to losing two dear friends and bandmates tragically, to his daughter surviving two brain tumors, it is inspiring that he continues to approach life with optimism. Ringo encourages us to see our problems from a new perspective.  "Look Up" asks us to simply raise our eyes above immediate concerns to glimpse the vast possibilities that exist beyond our current struggles.

Today, I will take three moments to literally look up at the sky, using each pause to remind myself that hope and possibility exist above my current problems.

What would change in your life if you spent more time looking up instead of looking down? What possibilities might you discover by lifting your perspective above immediate concerns?

Join March's Metal Health Lessons

When John Lennon admitted "Help! I need somebody" in 1965, he shattered expectations for rock stars by choosing vulnerability over invincibility. That radical honesty revealed how The Beatles understood that acknowledging struggle doesn't diminish strength, it creates the foundation for sustainable success. Throughout March, we'll explore how their approach to mental wellness, emotional honesty, and inner refuge provides actionable frameworks for leaders navigating burnout, anxiety, and unprecedented pressure in every area of life.
