Love is Real
Authenticity doesn't need decoration
January 19

Reaching for something genuine after years of being surrounded by Beatle sycophants, John cut this beautiful track with The Plastic Ono Band. This tender song continued the raw emotional honesty of that entire album. John had just finished primal therapy and was stripping his songwriting down to the bone. "Love is real, real is love," he sang.
Every word carried conviction. John had spent years hiding behind clever wordplay, elaborate metaphors, and musical complexity. He'd used his talent to deflect genuine vulnerability. But primal therapy broke down those defenses, forcing him to confront raw emotions he'd buried since childhood. This song emerged from that process, unadorned and honest.
As his fans demanded another “Come Together”, John shifted his artistic gear into bare honesty. He discovered that revealing himself was a greater risk than any experimental track he ever wrote. The song delivers that truth in under two minutes, proving brevity can carry profound weight.
Love becomes real when we put those words into action. John's shift from Beatles’ complexity to solo simplicity reflects a deeper shift from promoting an image to revealing his core self. He was done trying to impress anyone. He wanted to connect with what was real, stripping away everything that wasn't genuine..
Today, I will examine what is most important in my life, and share what that is with a loved one.
What simple truth about your priorities in life have you been ignoring? How might removing the distractions of daily life help you connect with those priorities?
