Oh My Love

Love clarifies everything

February 8

A pair of eyes opening wide, with light rays streaming inward toward the pupils. Clean line art suggesting sudden clarity and awakening. The eyes should feel amazed and clear, capturing the moment of seeing truly for the first time. Simple but expressive.

Here stands a man seeing clearly after years of looking through distorted lenses. John and Yoko wrote this quietly stunning song together for the "Imagine" album, expressing the wonder of perceiving the world through the lens of love. The production strips everything bare: just piano, guitar, and John's earnest vocal. George contributed the delicate guitar part that seems to float through the song like clarity itself.

Emerging from a period where John relied on studio effects and clever wordplay, he embraced raw honesty and direct communication. This song shows his growing ability to express genuine feelings directly. Yoko's influence helped him grow comfortable revealing himself.

Real growth becomes possible when we learn to express our feelings in a healthy way. The lyrics describe seeing the sky, trees, and people for what they truly are rather than through filters of expectation or fear. Genuine love removes the layers of self-protection. When we feel truly safe with someone, we can afford to see clearly.

Each step of John's journey toward healing took years and considerable pain. This song suggests that along that road, there are respites of pure and simple love. Yoko wasn’t just an instrument of John’s healing, she was his oasis in the desert.

Today, I will notice one area where a relationship has helped me see more clearly, either about myself or the world.

What truth about yourself became visible only through someone else's loving perspective? How has intimacy changed what you're willing to see?

Join March's Metal Health Lessons

When John Lennon admitted "Help! I need somebody" in 1965, he shattered expectations for rock stars by choosing vulnerability over invincibility. That radical honesty revealed how The Beatles understood that acknowledging struggle doesn't diminish strength, it creates the foundation for sustainable success. Throughout March, we'll explore how their approach to mental wellness, emotional honesty, and inner refuge provides actionable frameworks for leaders navigating burnout, anxiety, and unprecedented pressure in every area of life.
