Rain

Peace comes from perspective, not perfect conditions.

September 1

Simple black and white illustration of a person standing peacefully in falling rain with arms slightly outstretched, face turned upward with a serene expression, surrounded by gentle rain drops, minimalist style emphasizing tranquility rather than struggle.

Reacting to life's inevitable storms often becomes our biggest source of suffering. When John wrote "Rain" during the Revolver sessions, he was fascinated by how people let weather, both literal and metaphorical, dictate their entire emotional state. The song emerged from his observation that we spend enormous energy fighting circumstances completely beyond our control, missing the beauty available in every moment.

Accepting what we cannot change opens space for transformation. John believed that both rain and sun can be viewed as a hazard to avoid if we look through a negative lens. Instead of waiting for perfect conditions, John suggested finding peace within whatever conditions exist.

Internal shifts in perspective create outer changes in experience. The same rain that ruins one person's picnic nourishes another person's garden. The same sun that causes a sunburn brightens another person’s day. John's insight shows wisdom beyond his years: that our happiness doesn't depend on perfect circumstances, but on our ability to find meaning and beauty regardless of external conditions.

New possibilities emerge when we stop fighting the weather of our lives. Whether facing career setbacks, relationship challenges, or unexpected changes, we can choose to see these as opportunities for growth rather than obstacles to overcome. Whether it’s rain or sunshine today, take a moment to embrace today’s “weather” with a new perspective.

Today, I will identify one "storm" in my life and look for the renewal it might be bringing rather than focusing solely on the discomfort.

What current challenge might be offering you unexpected gifts if you could see it from a different angle? How could embracing rather than resisting this situation change your entire experience?

Join March's Metal Health Lessons

When John Lennon admitted "Help! I need somebody" in 1965, he shattered expectations for rock stars by choosing vulnerability over invincibility. That radical honesty revealed how The Beatles understood that acknowledging struggle doesn't diminish strength, it creates the foundation for sustainable success. Throughout March, we'll explore how their approach to mental wellness, emotional honesty, and inner refuge provides actionable frameworks for leaders navigating burnout, anxiety, and unprecedented pressure in every area of life.
