Stand By Me

The simplest promise, "I will be here," is often the most important one

April 30

Two figures side by side, one supporting the other through storm clouds or rough terrain, steadfast presence and reliability

Being there for your loved ones builds the human connection we all need. John covered this classic with such feeling that many people think of it as his song. Released in 1975, the promise to remain steady through any storm resonated with his own longing for reliability.

Years of instability taught John the value of dependable presence. His childhood was marked by abandonment and loss; Yoko became his anchor. The song's simple promise, "I will be here," carries more weight than elaborate declarations of love ever could.

Meaningful commitment is about showing up when the chips are down. When darkness comes, when mountains crumble, when challenges arrive, the question is always the same: will you stay? John's version makes this promise with his whole heart.

Every relationship needs this foundation: the confidence that someone will stay when things get difficult. John's passionate delivery suggests he's both making this promise and remembering times when he desperately needed a friend.

Today, I will make or renew the promise of reliable presence to someone important, showing through my actions that they can count on me.

Who needs to know you'll stand by them? How might your consistent presence provide security that allows them to take risks they wouldn't dare attempt alone?

Join April's New Beginnings Lessons

When George Harrison walked out of a contentious business meeting in 1969 and into Eric Clapton's garden, he discovered the strategic power of renewal. The song he wrote that afternoon, "Here Comes the Sun," would become The Beatles' most-streamed track and a masterclass in navigating transitions. Throughout April, we'll explore how their approach to new beginnings, strategic retreats, and turning endings into opportunities provides actionable frameworks for leaders navigating organizational transitions, career pivots, and transforming uncertainty into growth in every area of life.
