The Other Side of Liverpool

We discover unexpected richness when we truly notice the world right around us

November 27

Clean line art of a street corner or neighborhood scene with hidden details emerging, simple architectural lines, discovering nearby richness theme, minimalist black and white, local exploration aesthetic

Home reveals new depths when we look beyond familiar surfaces to discover hidden stories and unexpected treasures. Ringo's 2010 song "The Other Side of Liverpool" reflects his time in the rougher side of Liverpool. John, in contrast, came from a more middle-class neighborhood. Together, they came to see that every place holds depths waiting for closer attention.

Often we overlook the wealth of experience and meaning available in our immediate surroundings because we assume that interesting things happen elsewhere. The Beatles drew inspiration from their hometown's working-class streets and everyday people, finding magic in the hometown.

Many of us spend energy dreaming about distant places while missing the stories, relationships, and opportunities that exist right where we are. That perspective of looking deeper into what's around you rather than searching elsewhere became central to their artistic vision and continues to inspire meaningful exploration today.

Environment plays a big part in who we are. Approaching our immediate environment with curiosity opens us to new relationships and growth. Whether it's talking to longtime neighbors, learning local history, or simply walking different routes through known areas, meaningful discovery begins with attention and curiosity.

Today, I will explore one aspect of my familiar environment with fresh curiosity, seeking to discover something I've overlooked about the place where I live or work.

What stories might your neighborhood or workplace hold that you've never investigated? How could viewing familiar surroundings with tourist eyes reveal hidden richness in your everyday environment?

Join April's New Beginnings Lessons

When George Harrison walked out of a contentious business meeting in 1969 and into Eric Clapton's garden, he discovered the strategic power of renewal. The song he wrote that afternoon, "Here Comes the Sun," would become The Beatles' most-streamed track and a masterclass in navigating transitions. Throughout April, we'll explore how their approach to new beginnings, strategic retreats, and turning endings into opportunities provides actionable frameworks for leaders navigating organizational transitions, career pivots, and transforming uncertainty into growth in every area of life.
